Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 6, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Excellent Software, LLC (“Excellent,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit excellent.so (the “Site”) and when you use the Excellent application, including data from accounts you connect to it (such as Google).

The short version

  • The only personal information we ask for is your email address, if you join the waitlist.
  • We use analytics cookies only after you accept them in our cookie banner. Decline and nothing non-essential loads.
  • We don’t sell your personal information.
  • The Excellent product is local-first — data you create in the product, including anything you sync from a connected account like Google, stays in an encrypted database on your own machine and is not sent to us. How the product handles data from connected accounts is covered in its own section below.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you join the waitlist, we collect the email address you submit. We also receive anything you choose to send us, for example if you email us.

Information collected automatically

If you consent to analytics cookies, our analytics providers collect standard usage data such as pages viewed, referring URLs, approximate location (from IP), device and browser type, and interactions like a waitlist signup. We also use a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool (Vercel Analytics) that does not use cookies or track you across sites.

Cookies & analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to understand how the Site is used. Non-essential cookies (Google Analytics 4, the Meta Pixel, and/or Google Tag Manager) load only after you accept them in our consent banner. You can withdraw or change your choice at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer, or by clearing this Site’s data in your browser. Declining leaves only essential, cookieless measurement in place.

Conversion measurement (Meta). If — and only if — you accept analytics cookies, then when you join the waitlist we may also send Meta a hashed (SHA-256, one-way) version of your email address, together with technical signals such as your IP address, browser/user-agent, and Meta cookie identifiers, from our server. This measures the signup as a conversion and is de-duplicated with the browser-based Meta Pixel (Meta’s “Conversions API”). If you decline, none of this is sent. Meta processes this information in the United States; where required we rely on appropriate transfer safeguards (such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses) and Meta’s data-processing terms.

How we use information

  • To contact you about the waitlist, early access, and product launch.
  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site.
  • To measure traffic and understand what’s useful (with your consent).
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf — for example Supabase (stores waitlist emails), and Google, Meta, and Vercel (analytics) where you have consented.
  • Legal and safety — if required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

Data retention

We keep your waitlist email until you ask us to remove it or it is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected. Analytics data is retained according to each provider’s defaults.

Your rights & choices

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to unsubscribe from the waitlist, by emailing hello@excellent.so.

California residents. Under the CCPA/CPRA you have rights to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law. To exercise your rights, contact us at the email above; we will not discriminate against you for doing so.

EEA/UK residents. Where applicable, you have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, and to object to processing. Our lawful bases are your consent (analytics) and our legitimate interests / steps taken at your request (operating the Site and waitlist).

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Third-party links

The Site may link to third-party sites we don’t control. Their privacy practices are their own; please review their policies.

The Excellent product & data from connected accounts

The sections above concern the marketing Site. This section covers the Excellent application itself. Excellent is local-first: it runs on your own device and keeps your workspace in a local, encrypted database on that device. We do not host a cloud copy of your workspace, and data you bring into Excellent — including anything synced from a connected account — is not sent to our servers.

Connecting third-party accounts

Excellent can connect to third-party services at your direction to bring your own data into your local workspace. When you choose to connect an account, you authorize it through that provider’s standard OAuth consent screen, and the access happens directly between your device and the provider — no Excellent server sits in the authorization or the data path. You can connect, disconnect, or re-authorize any service at any time from Settings → Integrations in the app.

Google user data

If you connect a Google service, Excellent requests read-only access to only the data needed for the feature you turned on — with the single exception of Google Contacts, where read-and-write access lets Excellent sync your edits back when you ask it to:

  • Google Analytics (GA4) — reads your analytics reports (analytics.readonly) to show web KPIs as metrics.
  • Google Search Console — reads your search-analytics data (webmasters.readonly) to show SEO metrics.
  • Google Calendar — reads your events (calendar.readonly) to place meetings on the relevant contact’s timeline.
  • Google Contacts — reads and updates your contacts (contacts) to sync them with your people and, when you ask, write changes back.
  • Gmail — reads your messages (gmail.readonly) to place correspondence on the relevant contact’s timeline.
  • Google Drive — reads your files (drive.readonly) to bring documents into your workspace.

Where this data lives. Data retrieved from Google, and the access tokens used to retrieve it, are stored only on your own device, in your local database. Tokens and other secrets are encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM) with a key held by your operating system’s keychain, never in the database. This Google data is never transmitted to Excellent Software, LLC or stored on our servers, and we do not sell it, do not share it, and do not use it for advertising.

Optional AI features. Excellent includes optional, off-by-default AI features. If you choose to use one on content that includes data from a connected account, the specific content you direct the AI to act on is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) solely to produce the response you asked for, under terms that do not permit using it to train their models. Nothing is sent unless you invoke a feature on that material.

Google API Services User Data Policy. Excellent’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Revoking access & deleting data

You can disconnect any Google service from Settings → Integrations in the app, and you can revoke Excellent’s access to your Google Account entirely at your Google Account’s third-party access page. Because your synced data lives on your device, you can delete it by removing the connection and its data in the app, or by deleting your local database.

Other services you connect (for example HubSpot, Notion, Salesforce, or Stripe) are handled the same way: accessed at your direction, stored locally and encrypted, and never routed through or stored on our servers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and material changes will be reflected here.
